Who is the

Writers' Guild of Alberta

The Writers’ Guild of Alberta is a provincial arts service organization that represents both professional and emerging writers in Alberta. We envision an Alberta with a thriving writing community that is diverse, valued, and celebrated. Our mission is to support and advocate for all writers and provide opportunities to grow and connect while enriching Alberta’s culture and economy.

Our Land Acknowledgment

The Writers’ Guild of Alberta gratefully acknowledges our place in the homelands of Indigenous peoples within Mohkínsstsisi, amiskwaciy-wâskahikan, and rural and remote regions across the traditional territories of Treaties 4, 6, 7, 8, and 10. In an ongoing process of seeking truth and reconciliation, the WGA commits to building trust, cultivating meaningful relationships, and deepening our understanding of our treaty responsibilities on this land and in community. We commit to our role as Treaty People by listening to and following the lead of First Nations, Inuit, and Métis peoples. We hold profound gratitude for the First Nations, Inuit, and Métis peoples, including the storytellers, who have long cared for the more-than-human communities that have inspired so many authors across the province. The WGA believes that storytelling is a way forward, allowing non-Indigenous and Indigenous storytellers to learn from and connect with each other.
